OIL & OLEAGINOUS

Sunflower oil is the non-volatile oil pressed from the seeds of the sunflower (Helianthus annuus). Sunflower oil is commonly used in food as a frying oil, and in cosmetic formulations as an emollient. The sweet yellow oil obtained by compression of the seeds is considered equal to olive or almond oil for table use. Sunflower oil cake is used for stock and poultry feeding.

The oil is also used in soap and paints and as a lubricant. In 2018, Ukraine and Russia together accounted for 53% of the world’s production of sunflower oil.
